Jack-Lalanne's power juicer

I bought this juicer at a home show in Toronto a few years ago. I paid about Cdn $260 including taxes.
I read the manual and juiced mostly carrots and apples. I found it inconvenient to clean and the mesh-type basket was in fact quite difficult to clean, so after a few juicings, I put the appliance away in it's original box, in a cupboard and didn't use it for a year or so. Up to that point, I'd probably used it a dozen times.
A few weeks ago, I decided to try juicing again. I used the juicer three times, once again, using carrots, apples and celery. Within those three short times, the little white plastic housing that protects the nut of the motor simply broke right away!
I cannot find a replacement part and am anticipating that I will have to trash the juicer very soon. All in all, while I enjoyed the dozen of so glasses of juice that I DID get from this juicer, however price per glass turned out to be very expensive!
I will not buy this juicer again. I expect small appliances that cost that sort of money would last much longer than mine did!
