Jack LaLanne Juicer - Review Of Jack's Power Juicer MachineJack LaLanne's Power juicer can handle large pieces of fruit or vegetables, and produces a lot of juice with minimal effort. Like any juicer, Jack's juicer does require a little bit of effort to clean up. This is a centrifugal ejection model juicer. This is some fancy terminology that means circular grinding plate rotates to process the fruit and separate the pulp and the juice. Advantages of this type of juicer include the speed it can process the fruit or vegetables, and it has a large chute so it can handle large pieces at a time. The disadvantages include it can't juice leafy greens, and oxygen gets into the juice. A lot of people enjoy juicing wheatgrass or leafy greens. The Jack LaLanne Juicer doesn't handle these at all. Because Jack's Power juicer spins at such a fast rate, oxygen works its way into the juice. This isn't a big deal if you drink your juice right away. If you don't, the oxidized juice will lose its nutritional value quickly, and also will spoil quickly if you plan on storing the juice. Another design element that causes some users problems is how you screw the grinding plate into the machine. The grinding plate is made of stainless steel, but screws onto a plastic bolt. Don't try to screw the plate in too tight for it can crack the plastic bolt quite easily. Make sure it is secure, but be careful not to over-tighten and break your machine. FeaturesThe Jack LaLanne Power Juicer Model JLPJB is popular largely due to the infomercials that are on TV about it often. Is it really as great as they claim on TV?That depends upon what part you are listening too. First of all, any of the health benefit claims you hear about drinking juice from a juicer are true. Drinking unprocessed juice is an excellent way to go. You won't be disappointed with how great your homemade juice tastes, and for a lot of people, it makes you feel great too.  You don't have to do much pre-cutting to get the food into the juicer. The diameter is three inches wide. Just drop the food in and you hardly have to press the plunger down to get out fresh juice. The blade rotates very fast and cuts up the fruit or veggies quickly. It does a good job getting almost all the juice out of the food. The Jack LaLanne juicer informercials claim they extract up to 30% more juice than other juicers. This is only for pretty cheap models. Most models that cost $100 or more will extract the same amount of juice. We didn't run into this problem during testing, but what most consumers complain about is the parts can break easily. This model has a lifetime warranty on the motor, but not the parts. If a part breaks, you'll have to order a new one, and pay the cost. The motor doesn't typically break down. Another complaint is that it can break down in the dishwasher. We don't recommend using a dishwasher for any juicer simply because you should wash your juicer and all the parts right after using it. Waiting any amount of time will cause pulp to harden and become very difficult to clean.
Performance All of these fruits were shredded to pieces with ease by the juicer. The juice immediately started pouring out of the mouth as the fruit went into the machine. As for vegetables, it worked really well on soft and hard veggies. Carrots were chopped up very easily. We tested small baby carrots, and large ones too. Make sure you put the plunger in right after you place the fruits or veggies though. The centrifuge spins at an incredible rate so some kick back may happen. Pulp or maybe even a large shard could be ejected if you aren't careful. Tomatoes and celery were also ground up with ease. One thing we did notice was that leafy greens don't do as well in the Jack Lalanne's juicer as some other ones. The very fast spinning blade will spit the leaves off to the side before it really can grind them up. If you want to grind up things like spinach often, is not the ideal the juicer for you. The juice itself was tasty, but it always has a bit of foam. The ultra fast rotating blade causes bubbles to get into the juice. There always is a bit of froth at the top of the cup. Also, remember to drink the juice right away with the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. The oxygen that gets into the juice can cause it to lose nutritional value quickly and spoil if you store it away too long. Performance Rating:  Maintenance There is a lot of clean up though for the Jack's Power Juicer. It has a total of six different parts that have to be cleaned. Yes, six parts! First off, you have to rinse off the plunger. Next up, pull the silver latch down and take off the top cover. The top cover will have pulp on the inside of the tube where the plunger goes, and also all over the inside of the cover. There are a few tight corners that even need a knife or a fork tip to get out the debris. Get out the stainless steel blade with the special tool. This is hard to scrub because it is so sharp. You have to clean it off soon after juicing or else the hardened pulp will be virtually impossible to totally clean off this cheese grater type blade. The pulp does come off relatively easily if you do this soon after juicing. Just rinse it off with water.  We found it difficult to clean unless you use a scrub brush on the outside side of the screen first. Then we rinsed out the pulp. There was still pulp stuck, so we repeated this process a few more times. Underneath the screen and circular blade is the circular part that has the juicing spout. This needed a good rinse as well. Around the edge of the circle sometimes gets pulp wedged in tight. Use a scrub brush or the edge of a knife to get this dislodged. Finally, there is the pulp catcher. This blue container will have pulp all over in it. You can use this pulp for other cooking or baking projects too, but if you want to dispose of it, we recommend cleaning out most of the contents in the trash, and then rinsing the rest out in the sink. One side note. It really helps to have a garbage disposal system. If you don't, when you rinse out all this pulp, your sink will get clogged up. You should put a strainer down by the drain to catch the pulp and toss it in the trash or into a compost bin. Don't forget! When you put your Jack LaLanne Juicer back together, don't over-tighten the grinding plate. You could break the plastic screw head and ruin your machine!
